Nearly 70 teachers from Lomonosov Moscow State University have finally returned to Shenzhen MSU-BIT University (SMBU) after completing their quarantine, and together with this year's new students, attended a ceremony Saturday for the beginning of the new term on Longgang District campus.
Yu Yang, deputy director of the Shenzhen Municipal Education Bureau, said at the ceremony that SMBU is the country's first university to successfully welcome a large number of overseas teachers back to campus after the epidemic was brought under control in China.
Li Hezhang, rector of SMBU, delivered a speech at the ceremony in which he urged students to combine their personal dreams with the country's development, read books, raise questions, practice and build a strong mind.
Sergey Shakhray, first vice rector of SMBU, observed in his speech at the ceremony that Shenzhen is not only a contributor to the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area but also a leader in technological innovation and environmental protection as well as a model for the country and even other cities around the globe.
Li, Shakhray, Party chief and vice rector of SMBU Zhu Dijian, and deans of each department issued student cards to each new student at the ceremony and rewarded senior student assistants for helping new students over the past month.
Students staged performances at the end of the ceremony. Representatives of new undergraduate students who have been learning Russian for just four weeks sang a Russian song, which was greeted with applause from the audience.
