About Longgang

Located in the northeast part of Shenzhen, Longgang District lies to the west of Pingshan District, to the north of Luohu and Yantian districts, to the east of Longhua District and to the south of Huizhou City and Dongguan City. Covering an area of 388.21 square kilometers, Longgang District has 11 subdistricts , with a total of 111 communities. Situated in the center of the Shenzhen-Dongguan-Huizhou city circle, Longgang is regarded as the "bridgehead" for Shenzhen to link eastern and northern Guangdong regions. Today, Longgang has grown from a less-developed area of Shenzhen to a sub-center of the city, with a robust economy, harmonious society and nice environment.

Economic development

Longgang District is an important base for high-tech, advanced manufacturing, logistics and financial industries of Shenzhen. In 2019, the regional GDP was 468.578 billion yuan, ranking second in the city, up 8.1 percent from the previous year. The added value of industrial enterprises above designated size increased by 10.3 percent to reach 288.862 billion yuan. The total fixed assets investment was 132.135 billion yuan, with an increase of 17.6 percent. The total consumer goods retail sales reached 82.124 billion yuan, with an increase of 6.8 percent. The general public budget revenue was 24.24 billion yuan, down by 4.8 percent. The total import and export volume increased to 372.818 billion yuan, up 1.4 percent.

Longgang's business environment is being comprehensively improved. Measures were launched to support the development of private enterprises. Over 20 million yuan of utility fees were returned to companies that took action against illegal behaviors in the use of industrial buildings.

A financial service platform was launched with loans totaling 25 million yuan offered to small and medium-sized enterprises. The first training base for AEO Senior Certification in China was put into use in Longgang.

The reform on government review and approval was further improved. In total, 114 government services are available for swift approval in seconds.

The development momentum continues to increase.

Baolong Biomedical Innovation Pilot Zone is listed as one of the five biomedical industrial parks in Shenzhen. The first drone test field in South China has been put into use in Longgang. The construction of the Universiade AI town is accelerated. The China South City's e-commerce industrial park is designated as a national e-commerce demonstration base. In addition, the biggest investment promotion conference in the district was held with 38 projects signed, gaining a total investment of 23.5 billion yuan. Moreover, 260 industrial enterprises above designated size were newly established and 120,000 business bodies have registered.


Longgang has an all-inclusive education system that covers preschool education, compulsory education, secondary education, tertiary education, vocational education and special education. There are now 682 schools in Longgang (115 public schools, 79 private schools and 488 kindergartens). The number of primary, junior and senior high school students is 360,000 (including 252,100 primary school students, 75,800 junior high school students and 26,600 senior high school students). Shenzhen International University Town has more than 23,900 students, studying at the campuses of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, the Shenzhen Institute of Information Technology and the Shenzhen MSU-BIT University.


In recent years, Longgang District has established itself as a national model zone for comprehensive prevention and treatment of chronic diseases, for TCM (traditional Chinese medicine) promotion, and for women's and children's healthcare. By the end of 2019, there were 1,151 medical and health institutions in the district, with four 3A-rated hospitals including Longgang Central Hospital, Shenzhen Hospital of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, Third People's Hospital of Shenzhen and Shenzhen Longcheng Hospital. Additionally, there are the Cancer Hospital of Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, Shenzhen Center, Nanfang Hospital Digestive Diseases Shenzhen Center, Harvard Medical School South China International Education Center and other high-level medical projects.

Culture, sports and tourism

The cultural, sports and tourism sectors are booming.

Longgang District has made wonderful achievements in its efforts to develop cultural and sports industries with opportunities created by the Universiade Shenzhen 2011.

In the past three years, it has hosted more than 170 high-end sports events, such as the 2018 O.R.G. NHL China Games Shenzhen, the WTA Shenzhen Open and the ATP Shenzhen Open, with over 3 million viewers, and has grown into one of the top districts in China in terms of sports events. The Longgang subvenue of the China (Shenzhen) International Cultural Industries Fair (ICIF) has ranked first in all districts of Shenzhen for 10 consecutive years, and Dafen Oil Painting has become a world-renowned cultural brand.

In addition, the district has attracted renowned cultural institutions to set up a headquarter or branch here, such as Mahua FunAge and Midi Center, and built major cultural and sports facilities including the Red Cube of Shenzhen and the Shenzhen Book City Longgang Store.

In terms of tourism, the district boasts six five-star hotels and owns two national 3A-rated tourist attractions. What is more, the Gankeng Hakka Town is listed into the first pilot areas for cultural tourism. It has become one of the urban travel destinations in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area with 10 new attractions and 10 tourism routes.

In 2019, the region received 9.43 million tourists, an increase of 7.2 percent year-on-year, and had a tourism revenue of 8.53 billion yuan, an increase of 9.5 percent year-on-year.

Urban Landscape

Longgang enjoys a nice environment and good infrastructure. The main venue of the 26th Universiade, held in 2011, is located here. Traffic is very convenient, with Jihe, Shenshan, Huiyan, Shuiguan, Yanpai, Boshen expressways and Guangshen, Jingjiu, Pingyan railways passing here. The largest railway marshalling station in South China --- Pinghu South Railway Marshalling Station --- is located here, as well as Shenzhen East Railway Station and Xiamen-Shenzhen Railway Shenzhen New Town Station. Metro Line 3, 5 and 10 cross the district. Construction of Line 14 and 16 has started. From Longgang, one can conveniently reach Shenzhen International Airport and various checkpoints to Hong Kong.
